Summary

Librarian's note: There is an Alternate Cover Edition for this edition of this book here

A farm is taken over by its overworked, mistreated animals。 With flaming idealism and stirring slogans, they set out to create a paradise of progress, justice, and equality。 Thus the stage is set for one of the most telling satiric fables ever penned –a razor-edged fairy tale for grown-ups that records the evolution from revolution against tyranny to a totalitarianism just as terrible。
When Animal Farm was first published, Stalinist Russia was seen as its target。 Today it is devastatingly clear that wherever and whenever freedom is attacked, under whatever banner, the cutting clarity and savage comedy of George Orwell’s masterpiece have a meaning and message still ferociously fresh。

Quick read。 Scary stuff。 Quite astonished this wasn’t required reading in the college Sociology course I took。

George Orwell was born in India in 1903。 His father was a junior official of the British colonial government in India。 Two years later, except for his stay in India, his family returned to Britain。 Orwell first attended a private boarding school, and later entered the famous Eton College on a scholarship。 After graduation, he applied for the British colonial police in Burma。 Because of his dislike of the injustice of colonial rule, five years later, he took advantage of the opportunity of return George Orwell was born in India in 1903。 His father was a junior official of the British colonial government in India。 Two years later, except for his stay in India, his family returned to Britain。 Orwell first attended a private boarding school, and later entered the famous Eton College on a scholarship。 After graduation, he applied for the British colonial police in Burma。 Because of his dislike of the injustice of colonial rule, five years later, he took advantage of the opportunity of returning to Britain to resign。 In 1936, the Spanish Civil War broke out。 “This fascism has to be stopped by someone。” He applied to join the Republican Army led by the Spanish Communist Party and joined the Spanish Civil War。 He returned home after being injured 6 months later。 On the way home, he was tracked and assassinated all the way。 It turned out that the Communist Party gained control of the Spanish government in 1937, and in conjunction with the great purges in the Soviet Union, it also began persecuting the Trotskyists, and the Orwells were among them。 Fortunately, they escaped in time, but many of their friends were thrown into prison, missing, and executed, "just because they were suspected of having unorthodox thinking。" After returning to England, Orwell found that many enlightened people also believed in propaganda from Moscow。 “It taught me how easily totalitarian propaganda can control the public opinion of the enlightened people in democratic countries。” Orwell thought he must be concerned about the world。 Responsible, he has the responsibility to tell what he saw and thought。 He wanted to use a story that "can be easily understood by almost everyone and can be easily translated into other languages" to allow Western Europeans to see the true face of the Soviet regime and expose the myths propagated by Moscow。 After six years of brewing, he started writing this political fable or adult fairy tale in 1943。 It was published two years later。 It became a dystopian masterpiece by the side of "Nineteen Eighty Four", which was completed and published in 1948。 The most common interpretation of "Animal Farm" is that the story is based on the Soviet Union's Stalin administration。 It is said that every animal and every character in the story has a corresponding character prototype; every event and even every detail is also referred to, although "they are reduced, their The chronological order has been reversed"。 The French philosopher Jean Baudrillard said: “Only when a theory adopts a fictional or a fable form, it shines so forever。” Orwell deconstructed this sequel through the animals of the “Animal Farm” in England。 The modern political myth from the rise to the final metamorphosis is shown to the world。 The form of its "fable" returns the "nobleness" of human beings, giving people a height of overlooking and a distance to look at, which makes it easier for readers to see the absurdity and cruelty。 Let's first take a look at what this "fable" is about。 The most respected old boar among the animals in the "Manor Farm" called all the animals to a meeting in one night。 He wanted to spread his thoughtful thinking: animals are cruelly exploited by humans, and animals must rise up to rebel。 He told the animals the dream he had the night before, the dream about how happy the animals were after they defeated humans。 He also taught the animals a song: "Life in England", calling on all the creatures in England and Ireland to work hard for the bright future of the golden age, "even if the strong men break their heads before they get paid。" The meeting is in progress, a few The rat that jumped out caused a commotion, and the old major presided over the group to vote, unanimously agreeing that all animals are comrades。 "All animals are equal。" The old major was accused of allusing Marx and Engels; "The Life of England" was accused of allusing the "Internationale"; as for the old major's dream, it was naturally communism。 After the death of the old major, the most intelligent pigs among the animals, especially the two young breeding pigs: Snowball and Napoleon, and the most famous and excellent eloquence among the pigs, they interpret the old major’s thoughts into one。 A complete ideological system is called "Animalism", and its basic principles are secretly taught to animals。 Napoleon is scary, silent, and famously swears not to stop for unfulfilled goals。 He is accused of insinuating Stalin; Snowball is active, quick to speak, and has many ideas。 He is accused of insinuating Trotsky; Zhicai is accused of insinuating Molotov。 Or Bukharin, or generally refers to Stalin's loyal supporters who are good at ideology and political propaganda。 Mr。 Jones is the owner of the manor farm。 He is often drunk and neglects the management of the farm。 In midsummer, he ran out to drink again。 The hired workers only milk the cows and do not feed the cows forage。 At night, the extremely hungry cows led the trouble。 The animals responded and fed on their own。 Jones and hired workers who were awakened came to beat the animals。 The animals rose up and drove away Jones and others。 Everyone。 The revolution is victorious! The animals occupied Jones’s house, faced with the extravagant life of the original owner, unanimously decided: to keep it as a memorial, "any animal can never live in it。" This successful animal revolution was accused of insinuating the "October Revolution。" The animals swept away all traces left over from Jones's reign and changed the "Manor Farm" to an "Animal Farm。" The pig-heads who have learned to read and write first streamlined "zoologicalism" into "Seven Commandments", inscribed on the wall outside the big barn, and solemnly declared that this is an unalterable code。 After happily, the animals quickly transferred to an orderly production and self-help。 The group was united and friendly, working enthusiasm was high, each doing their best, and the results were remarkable。 The animals work during the day, study at night, and carry out literacy campaigns。 Snowball organized various animal committees with great enthusiasm, but mostly ended in failure。 On Sunday, the animals held a flag-raising ceremony and held an animal meeting。 The Stallion boxer, who is not intelligent, but has a persevering personality and earth-shaking enthusiasm, always mutters: "I will work harder", works hard, sweats, and works hard, winning the love of all animals。 The other mare, alfalfa, which is slugging, and the boxer together。 The two of them confessed to death and recognized that the three boars were their teachers, so they worked hard to understand all the instructions of the pigs and consciously conveyed them to the other animals。 Benjamin, the oldest and worst-tempered donkey, likes to say strange things and refuses to comment on the victory of the revolution, only saying that the donkey has the longest lifespan。 With their superior knowledge, the pigs act as leaders。 They don't work from the beginning, they are only responsible for commanding, supervising, and encouraging other animals。 At the animal conference, the draft resolution is always the pig。 Because sheep, chickens, and ducks are too stupid—nothing else is much better—can’t remember the full text of The Seven Commandments。 After careful consideration, Snowball compressed it into something easy to read and remember: “Four legs are good, two One leg is bad。" Boxers and alfalfa are accused of representing the working class; donkeys refer to intellectuals in general; sheep later enthusiastically chanted the slogan "Four legs are good, two legs are bad," and were accused of insinuating fools。 When the animals found that milk and apples were exclusively enjoyed by the pigs, they squeaked and said that pigs are for the protection of brain power, and the protection of brain power is for all animals, otherwise "Jones will come back!"-this is not only Immediate results will become invincible and invincible in the future。 Fox Garden and Crowbar Land are two farms adjacent to the animal farm。 The owners are Mr。 Pilkington and Mr。 Fred Lick。 Pilkington is a persuasive, keen on fishing and hunting, and was accused of insinuating Churchill or Roosevelt; Frederick is a "fierce and cunning man, who is continuously involved in litigation, and is known for slaughtering opponents and being particularly difficult。" 。" was accused of insinuating Hitler。 They panicked about the successful rebellion and good autonomy of the animals on the animal farm。 One day after the autumn harvest, they colluded with Jones and launched an armed attack on the animal farm。 Under the wise command of Snowball, the animals fought bravely and won a great victory。 Snowball and the boxer were awarded the "First Class Animal Hero" medal。 The battle was named "Battle of the Bullpen"。 The "Battle of the Bullpen" was alleged to be an allusion to the armed intervention of the Soviet Union over the European powers and the White Army's rebellion during the Soviet Civil War。 Molly is a beautiful-looking mare。 She used to pull a two-wheeled carriage for Jones。 She was greedy for enjoyment and vanity, and used all kinds of excuses to escape collective labor。 It is accused of representing a person who does not change his servility and misses the old society。 After the "Battle of the Bullpen", Molly defected to Willington and drove a beautiful red and black two-wheeled cart for a tavern owner。 Snowball and Napoleon disagreed on politics, arguing on all issues, especially on the issue of building windmills to generate electricity。 Their differences were so serious that the entire farm was almost divided。 At the animal vote meeting to decide whether to build a windmill, the designer and main builder of the windmill, Snowball, was driven out of the farm by the evil dogs that were secretly domesticated by Nine Napoleon。 Napoleon declared that Snowball was a criminal and an enemy, and at the same time announced the cancellation of the animal meeting and the establishment of a committee composed entirely of pigs to make decisions on all issues on the farm。 Napoleon served as chairman。 When the four little pigs wanted to express different opinions, they were frightened by the vicious dog。 Afterwards, squeaking around to talk about the importance of loyalty and obedience, emphasizing iron discipline is today's slogan。 The boxer took the lead in stating: "Napoleon is always right。" After Snowball was expelled, Napoleon, who had been fiercely opposed to the construction of the windmill, announced that the windmill was still to be built。 He also advertised that the construction of the windmill was Napoleon's idea from the beginning, and that the snowball was the thief who stole Napoleon's wisdom。 As the animals struggled to build windmills, shortages of various materials began to appear, and Napoleon decided to trade with people。 Doesn't it mean that revolution means a complete break with mankind? The animals couldn't figure it out, they were inexplicably uncomfortable and even worried。 Zhica lobbied around, saying that the various regulations not to deal with humans were the imagination of animals, and when I delved deeper, it turned out to be a rumor from Snowball。 When the animals were confused, they thought it was their memory。 The lawyer Mr。 Wimper appeared on the manor as a middleman in the pig and human trade。 Although the animals felt terrified, they felt proud when they saw the four-legged Napoleon give orders to the two-legged Wimper。 The pigs suddenly moved into Jones's house, lived the life of a human, and slept on the bed。 The animals once again remembered that this violated Article 4 of the "Seven Commandments": "No animals are allowed to sleep on the bed", but when they went to inspect the outer wall of the barn, Article 4 turned out to be: "No animals are allowed to sleep on the bed sheet。" Halfway through the construction of the windmill, the windmill collapsed。 Napoleon declared that it was a traitor who caused the destruction of Snowball, and announced that Snowball was sentenced to death, and the windmill was to be rebuilt。 As mentioned earlier, Snowball was accused of insinuating Trotsky。 Trotsky is one of the main leaders of the October Revolution, second only to Lenin in status and influence。 Lenin was squeezed out by Stalin during his serious illness and death。 Later, because of his strong opposition to Stalin's dictatorship, he was dismissed from all positions inside and outside the party, expelled from the party, exiled, and deported。 In 1940, the Soviet agent whom he regarded as a friend was brutally killed with an ice pick in the back of his head。 In the bitter winter after the windmill collapsed, animals rebuilt the windmill in the midst of hunger and cold, and the food shortage problem became increasingly severe。 In order to protect the image of the animal farm, Napoleon not only strictly sealed the news to the outside world, but also created the illusion of abundant food reserves。 In order to fulfill the egg sale contract with humans, Zhi Ge ordered the hens to turn in all the eggs they laid。 The hens rebelled and quickly gave in under severe threats。 Snowball has been established step by step into a "Jones' hidden spy" who often sneaks back to the farm to do all kinds of destruction and cannot be blamed。 Moreover, the hidden agents of Snowball are lurking among the animals。 The cruel bloodbath began。 Four pigs who had protested against Napoleon’s cancellation of the Animal Conference, the three young hens who led the attempted rebellion in the egg incident, a goose that hid the corn, a sheep that used to urinate in the drinking fountain。。。 were executed one by one, Napoleon’s feet The corpses on the side were piled up, and blood flowed into rivers in the farm。 After the slaughter, the remaining animals were frightened。 Alfalfa fell into contemplation: This is different from the pre-revolutionary conception of "an animal society free from hunger and whip。 Everyone is equal, everyone works to the best of his ability, and the strong defends the weak。。。" The blueprint is completely different, but "no one Dare to say what you think。" She sang "The Creatures of England" sadly and affectionately, and the animals responded。 Zhica suddenly appeared accompanied by two vicious dogs and officially announced that "The Life of England" had been banned because the rebellion had been completed。 In the middle and late 1930s, Stalin launched a campaign of political terrorism against the "old Bolsheviks"。 A large number of high-ranking generals were executed, many were imprisoned, reformed through labor, and exiled。 Millions of people were in this great purge。 Die。 The sixth article of the "Seven Commandments" on the barn wall: "No animal can kill any other animal" turned out to be: "No animal can kill any other animal, if there is no reason。" The animals even more。 The windmill is being built hard, and I feel in a daze, "Working hours are longer than in Jones's time, but food is not better than then。" However, Zhique always announces a long list of numbers, indicating that grain production is increasing。 "Our leader, Comrade Napoleon" has become more and more simple, and occasionally shows up, majestic and imposing。 His birthday will be celebrated with a shot, and all the achievements and credits of the animals belong to him。 For example, the chickens would say: "Under the guidance of our leader, Comrade Napoleon, I lay five eggs in six days。" On the wall corresponding to the "Seven Commandments" is inscribed a pig who is good at writing poetry and composing music。 Xiao Weidian's new work "Comrade Napoleon"。 Above the poem is a profile portrait of Napoleon。 On the surface, Napoleon maintained a friendly relationship with Pilkington, but secretly he has always had an unknown tacit understanding with Friedreck。 However, Friedreck not only deceived Napoleon fiercely in the timber trade, but also aggressively invaded the animal farm。 And blew up the windmill。 The animals fought bloody, heavy casualties, but finally defeated Friedrich。 This battle was named "Battle of Windmills"。 The "Battle of the Windmill" was alleged to represent the Soviet Union's victory over Fascist Germany in the Patriotic War。 The pigs drank alcohol to celebrate the victory, which was matched by the fifth commandment "No animals should drink alcohol", which quietly became "No animals should drink too much alcohol。" The animals started to rebuild the windmill again, and they worked endlessly, but their rations dropped again and again。 However, the rations for pigs and dogs have not been reduced。 The pigs are even growing fat, creaking that "the inflexible egalitarian approach to rations is contrary to the principles of animalism。" All barley is exclusive to pigs and cannot be eaten。 Finished, pigs are used to make wine。 The descendants of Napoleon, more than 30 piglets, enjoy all kinds of privileges。 The animals must hold a "spontaneous" parade every week, with the banner of "Long live Comrade Napoleon!" After the parade, there will be a poem reading praising the leader and a speech praising the leader。 The Animal Republic was announced, and Napoleon was elected president as the only candidate。 At the time of the rebellion, Moses, the crow tamed by Jones, fled with him, but now he flies back again and continues to talk about the beauty of Honey Mountain。 Moses was accused of insinuating the Eastern Orthodox Church, and Honey Mountain was referring to heaven。 The pigs did not believe what Moses said, but allowed him to stay on the farm, not participate in labor, and have a beer allowance。 The boxer who has made great contributions to the revolution has done everything and can't get up again。 The pigs sent him to the slaughterhouse in exchange for a box of whiskey for the banquet the pigs missed him。 She spoke emotionally to the animals how boxers received meticulous hospice care in the hospital。 At the boxer's memorial service, Napoleon asked the boxer's motto-"I will work harder and Napoleon will always be correct。"-became the motto of all animals。 With the passing of the cold and the heat, time passed, and there were only animals that had participated in the revolution that year。 The creaking numbers, as always, indicate that everything is getting better and better, only the old donkey Benjamin remembers every detail of his long life。 "Anyway, hunger, hardship, and disappointment are the unchanging laws of life。" One day, accompanied by the neighing of a mare alfalfa, the animals saw: pigs walking on their hind legs; front hooves with a whip。 The "Seven Commandments" on the wall only left the "One Commandment": "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others。" A few days later, the farm ushered in an inspection group composed of several farmers nearby。 They visited around and were full of praise。 In the evening, the pigs prepared a sumptuous feast and chatted around the table。 Mr。 Pilkington gave a toast and said that the long-standing suspicions and misunderstandings between pigs and humans have finally ended, and the goals of pigs and humans are exactly the same: "You have your lower animals to deal with。" "We have ours。" The lower classes need to be settled。" Napoleon was simply heartbroken。 He first clarified the rumors about the subversive revolutionary ideas of the animals on the animal farm and attempted to incite neighbouring farm animals to rebel。 。。。more

4。5!I would like to separate the story itself from the author's goals and opinions as to the actual events that inspired the work, but there is no way。 The entire plot, its events and their repercussions in history are direct consequences of the message that George Orwell wanted to convey。The book portrays how a revolution starts to stop the injustices that are taking place, but ends up reaching the same point where it started, the same injustices, but now only with different faces in power。 How 4。5!I would like to separate the story itself from the author's goals and opinions as to the actual events that inspired the work, but there is no way。 The entire plot, its events and their repercussions in history are direct consequences of the message that George Orwell wanted to convey。The book portrays how a revolution starts to stop the injustices that are taking place, but ends up reaching the same point where it started, the same injustices, but now only with different faces in power。 How the working class is being brainwashed into thinking they are happy and free, despite the obvious exploitation they have suffered by the people in power。Overall I found The Animal Revolution a simple book to read and easy to understand。 I was shocked and speechless in several parts of the reading because of the characters' actions, which I believe was the author's intention。 I didn't like the message of hopelessness and frustration at the end, implying that revolutions don't work, but overall I found a book worth reading。 。。。more

Orwells metaphor for the rise of the Soviet Union and the perversion of the ideals that the people that created it wanted it to stand for is timeless。 The animals’ socialist revolution is entertaining yet also informative as Orwell’s commentary done through animals on the basic tenets of human nature is quite interesting。

Quick read。 Relevant in today’s political atmosphere。 Pigs = politicians, horses = hard workers, blame game = scapegoat with no truth。 Crazy such an old book is still so relevant。 Goes back to THINK for yourself, consider the facts, opinions, bias, persons agenda and what they have to lose/gain。 Worthwhile read to see the issues aren’t new they just are presented differently each generation。

I think that this book is very symbolic and it can be viewed as a critic not only to the USSR but to all governing bodies or when a political system turns toxic and is ruined by corruption。 I personally loved the comparison of humans to pigs and how at the end of the books, the animals could not even differentiate between the humans and the pigs。 I find it really representative of the corrupted ruling and oppressing class according to the book and in this particular story。 It also makes me think I think that this book is very symbolic and it can be viewed as a critic not only to the USSR but to all governing bodies or when a political system turns toxic and is ruined by corruption。 I personally loved the comparison of humans to pigs and how at the end of the books, the animals could not even differentiate between the humans and the pigs。 I find it really representative of the corrupted ruling and oppressing class according to the book and in this particular story。 It also makes me think a lot about our very corrupted government here in Lebanon, and every time the pigs took unfair and oppressing decisions, or lied to the rest of the animals, it reminded me of the criminal Lebanese politicians。 。。。more

A great book which I already found perfect examples in this day and age that I can apply referencing Animal Farm。 Well worth a read!

The ideas of this book are not very new in today’s world but I enjoyed the allegory non the less。 Weirdly enough I was more invested in the animal characters in this book than in any of the characters of Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four。 So I would definitely recommend this over that one。The anti-capitalism vibes and criticism of cult like leadership really got me going。 Very enjoyable, easy to follow short book。
